Organic products are top of mind for brands and consumers, too

Going hand in hand with sustainability and environmental efforts, there has been a slow but steady increase of organic products in the beverage-alcohol space. But the process has been slow due to the legalities surrounding the word “organic.” It turns out that when the bulk of alcoholic beverages contain ingredients that are grown in fields, it’s hard to find crops that meet the criteria to be organic. To claim a product is organic, the United States Department of Agriculture requires it “contains at least 95% organic ingredients with no chemically added sulfites.”

Even with the stiff regulations and a slower road to certification, the growth is there. Organic grain production has climbed from just 0.1% to be about 0.5%.
